i'm hopped up on super strong coffee and wine right now, and i dare you to suggest a better mindset in which to review and post two bands that were submitted to me via email?!
first band is called SABRE, and they categorize themselves as 'sludge.'
listening to the album now....called 'demo II.'
first song starts off sludgy and slow [surprise]
and then speeds right up into something reminiscent of black cobra, maybe back when they were starting out with a badly recorded demo.
all i can think of while i listen to this is listlessly standing in the back of the dank basement of the charleston, listening to no name local bands that are all the same with vocals that sound like they're coming from the next room over out of a PA stuffed with a pillow. someone go up and get me another $5 PBR from one of those overprivileged douchicle bartenders?
the second song is called condescension, it's much better than the first.
third song...okay guys, stop worshipping torche. this is like torche without that devilishly grinning asshole's vocals.
speaking of devilishly grinning have you guys seen converge's drummer when he's playing? motherfucker looks like he's about to summon satan out of his bass drum.

all in all this isn't terrible, but it's largely unremarkable.
i'd give a listen again in a year to see if they were still together and had improved.
blog.

second band up is called SOUND ASLEEP, from ontario, canada, who categorize themselves doom.
currently listening to the three song s/t.
there's an intro, a thirteen minute song, and a seventeen minute song.
hoping it won't put me to sleep AMIRITE GUYS?!
so far i dig this, surprisingly. i don't know why i have such low expectations from bands i've never listened to before.
it's about as slow as your resting breath rhythm, avec old isis aaron turner tortured vocals [does anyone else think that his fucking dog died or something before they recorded the red sea? christ], and full, layered guitars.
second song now...better than the first. i'm noticing a pattern. are you?
ooh, now there's a really minimal part with warm guitars and something in the back...strings? viola?
and in a heartbeat we're back to crushing heavy.
listen.
