The Loathsome Couple

Not long ago I had made a post about this band on Vonfrost’s blog but I guess some of you may appreciate this stuff as well.
Recently I stumbled upon the debut full-length release by Seattle-based trio The Loathsome Couple and I found it a really cool slab of, let’s say, Heavy Metal, in the sense of heavy and in the sense of metal.
The line-up of this band attracted me particularly because of the presence of Tobias Burch, the man behind a really cool funeral doom act, Amort.
Hence the line-up includes Tobias on really crushing vocals and Mike and Matt Vogan on drums and guitars, respectively.
Officially the band is tagged as “sludge-doom-noise” on Metal Archives and as “experimental heavy metal” on Bandcamp. Well, both tags fit and none is adequate!
The debut full-length by The Loathsome Couple is a vortex of heavy, massive riffs, and some great relentless drumming as nest for Tobias’ powerful voice. The tracks develop according to typical down-tempo rhythms but sounds range from sludge-doom to experimental dark prog via some great heavy metal (I don't know how to call it in another way).
Just listen, for example, to the awesome second track of this album, and you’ll see how killer a charge of distorted upbeat heavy metal can get when funeral doomsters unleash their rage!
Great musicians indeed and a great singer are behind this impressive debut.

The band guys offer their cool album as free digital download via Bandcamp.
However it is possible to support the band by getting hold of the physical release which comes as cool folded apparel (not the same old plastic box) or else in “old school” tape format. There’s a cool t-shirt as well. You’ll find all the options in the said Bandcamp page

P.S.: … and if you dig funeral doom, change latidude for once, leave Finland for a while and go to see how they do it in Seattle with Amort.
