Improvisations

In case you visited the Swamp in the last weeks, you may have noticed a post of mine about a band from Baltimore, Mother Sun Flower, tagged by an anonymous, maybe a bit naïve-looking, “botanical” cover art.
That band is worth of note not only for its very cool demo output but also because of the musician involved. One is the talented drummer Elias Schutzman from the retro-sounding heavy psych rock The Flying Eyes, and the other outstanding musicians are guitarist/vocalist John Lipscomb and bassist Timmy Shaw from the “psych grindcore” band Whoarfrost.
About Whoarfrost, they say “take one part Jimi Hendrix, one part John Coltrane, one part Hella, one part Lightning Bolt, one part Nirvana, & one part Ornette Coleman”.

Well, for the moment I’m not posting anything about Whoarfrost but I’m posting here something quite tasty and directly related to Whoarfrost’s substrate, i.e. band Transparent Flesh Of Present Time.
Jon Lipscomb himself draw my attention on this project which involves him on gitar/voice, Ethan Snyder from Whoarfrost on drums and Casimir Liberski on keyboards.

The act has so far produced some interesting, completely improvised tunes developing in the eclectic territories of experimental and avantgarde music and involving free jazz and psychedelic rock jams.
All this is hosted in the first release, A Functioning Police State Needs No Police (2011), which is available for free download on Bandcamp.
As reported on the download site, all songs were improvised and recorded by Andrew Nault, live with no overdubs in the Boston cold. Mixed by Jon Lipscomb and Andrew Nault. The cool artwork is by piano player Casimir Liberski.

“Transparent Flesh of Present Time is the charging restless mute unvoiced road keening in a seizure of power into the penciled traceries of our faintest wishes. Enjoy...”
