I still have some “fresh” old-school death metal stuff I would like to post (poor Conan …), but I can’t do it before posting an exceedingly beautiful black metal album, out on Profound Lore.
It’s The Tenant, the latest release by US band Ludicra.
The band is tagged as black metal, and often the rhythms, the riffs and the incredible vocal style of the lady singer, Laurie Sue Shanaman, are “black”, and very angry as well! But there’s much more than that, and those melodic insets, some acoustic and the choirs mixed up with the rich, fast, catchy and original black, thrash, heavy metal riffs make up something incredibly magic and varied.
It’s not simply black, it's not simply prog and it’s less boring than post-metal (of course I’m joking …. a bit …).
And in some instances it's like hearing a bit of Opeth's magic.
I don't have other better words than "beautiful" for this album.
