The name of the Roman emperor Diocletian recalls persecutions, and actually the sounds by the band Diocletian are punishing like a persecution!
Diocletian are from New Zealand and play a take-no-prisoner-sort of doom-death-black metal.
The guys in this band are variably related to other interesting black to stoner-sludge bands from NZ: Creeping, Vassafor, The House of Capricorn.
This is the band's last release, the debut full-length album Doom Cult (2009), a wall of sound burstling with tons of dense, wicked riffs, a relentless drumming and barbaric grim vocal parts provided by various vocalists.

this is fucking crushing
Diocletian are not related to Creeping nor the house of capricorn
The bands I mentioned together with Diocletian are and/or were "variably" (as I wrote) related one another by means of the "linking" band Vassafor.
Check on metal-archives.com. I was just writing the extremes.
NZ extreme metal panorama seems quite restricted, although lively, as in a small village where all are in sort of family relationships.
I happened to find all of these bands in a row time ago because I wanted to know more about Vassafor.
I should have written more about this but I thought not many people would be interested.
