VA - Swamp Abyss Sorcery (2012)

This time is my friend Jared who is being duly patriotic ...Inserisci link
The dragon’s year just started, but a New Wave of Swamp Disease has been spreading since last Valentines’s day, and it cannot be stopped …
Thanks to good ol’ Jared (Oates Haggard) of the cool webzine Orlandooom for spreading the link to this killer, brand new collection of Florida’s heavy/nasty/filthy bands bathing their feet in the local swamps.
As reported on Jared’s website, this is a FREE compilation and is KILLER. It is entitled Swamp Abyss Sorcery and was compiled and released by Satanik Recordings and band HOT GRAVES right on Valentine’s Day. The comp is equipped with lore and artwork by Jean Saiz.
But check out Jared’s post for additional infos because he is frontman in Fire in The Cave, one of the cool bands involved. So he is one of “da men” …

Tracklist:

1) Shroud Eater - Pale Rider 02:38
2) Druid Lord - Burn In Pagan Fire 05:34
3) Fatal - Slaughtered Conscious 04:07

5) Orbweaver - Those of Non-Being 05:00
6) Flyingsnakes - Curtain 05:52

Loon - Loon (2011)

So girl doom from providence. Which if you've ever met a girl from providence makes perfect sense.

I remember seeing this band live one time but I wasn't really paying attention because it was during a Red Sox or Celtics game and i am an emotional invalid when sports are on. and since the bruins are about to start big surprise I am in the same boat all over again. I recently remembered them and wanted to hear them again along with some weird black metal band called 'the hard drugs' No luck finding the hard drugs but i found these broads record. and it does not disappoint. kind of low flying under the hype radar which has to be a plus to some of you given the fact yob is opening for tool on some dates. and overpraised metal act + mainstream rock act = nightmare.

Doom with girl vocals might just be a hacky move but I really like it. It somehow gives it instant credibility to me which it probably does not deserve. Maybe I'm just lazy and refuse validation to anything unless its gimmicky now. But whatever I'm sold.
speaking of lazy I haven't offered any real comparisons or descriptions of this band. so here are some haikus

providence, shit hole
girl singer, buried at sea?
tilda swinton, hot

are they even good?
well traveled riffs abound me
maybe they are hot

rhode island is nice
there is a lot to do there
like being in hell

metal simile
much like a police report
girl screams are funny

miserable douchebag
must i crush all i value?
i liked this album

ooh baby do you
know what thats worth? we'll make heav
ven a place on earth

Öxxö Xööx - Rëvëürt

If Katatonia and Ephel Duath had a kid and it rebelled against them by listening to Rammstein and made a butterfly logo.

Finally a metal band not afraid to make songs over 10 minutes long!!! I recently deleted all but 2 opeth albums from my computer and I feel like I just started to eat only all natural foods.

This band loves inconsistency almost as much as it does umlauts. I assume their german because sometimes when the lead singer does a Peter Steele impression he sounds a lot like Du Haste. Anyways, if you like Ulver then I guess you'll like this band, or at least be able to understand what its like to like a band like this. I can't get past the Peter Steele vocals. Organs, harpsichords, silly vocals, doomy doomness.

its all over the place and i know a lot of people will like this.

i would be remiss if i didn't comment on what could be the worst band name in the history of earth. these french fruits get away with this name? and people want to put an end to bullying?

ps i only listened to two songs

Subrosa.

sorry about the time off, i was on vacation. i will share no experiences from the journey as it is my personal life and i will thank you to stay out of it.

but here's a band i completely fell in love with while on my . Subrosa is some band from somewhere with some broad as a lead singer and more importantly an awesome string section that is the perfect addition to be added to doom sludge. exactly what the genre needed, everything pretty much has been done, it didn't need another interpretation of a bunch of songs already done perfectly, it needed a deconstruction and appraisal of what is important. girl vocals always send me swooning, but this isn't the typical girl vocals that i love, the sad i'm in a sweater under an afghan blanket lets watch movies and forget about our problems denali vocals that have become a staple among too many bands lately, yet always work as a hook to pull me in.

google results shows multiple girls in the band, which if not an indy act or an avi i downloaded off of a porn torrent site tends to disappoint, but I really can't say enough good things about this band. they play really great music that doesn't trail off and be lame.

if pj harvey liked sabbath
if battle of mice wasn't so off putting

i guess this is the band i think people love junius for being that i just don't see in them.

from their website:

PJ Harvey + Kyuss + Appalachian folk + Coven

"Extreme straightforwardness is the name of the game in getting to the primitive center inside all of us that has the most power to overpower."

see?!?! i told you they're girls. i thought of the pj harvey connection by myself so i'd like the credit.

Seahag

Ok so Seahag is a band from North Central Miss...FINE I'LL DO SOME RESEARCH. Oh...so they're from Little Rock Arkansas, ouch, that's worse than North Central Missouri. I don't mean to cast aspersions *(yes I exclusively do mean to do just that) but this band's "About Us:" is void of any background around the band and members and just mentions "we've played with rwake". Is life that bad? That's the highlight of your lives guys? Little Rock must be a fucking barren outpost on the highway to the abstract fields of magnetized nothingness.

Believe it or not a band from the south featuring a group of what i can best describe as "not classically handsome gentleman" would play an angry brand of doom metal. They have a song called "Drawn to Darkness" which is a song I assume inspired by fat red haired girls who smoke Newports. Ahhh yes, stereotypical bigotry™.

I'm not good at doing positive reviews about anything, ask any girl that ever blew me only to have me unpause my xbox game, but I will say this, if you do enjoy doom metal/riffs/metal/flannel/sideburns you have to check out the 3:28 second song called "Count Your Dead" it really is worth the download. Doom can use some more songs under 7 minutes long. I love classic movies that aren't in a hurry to tell the story but there is something to be said about pace, and this band has it. 7 minute songs certainly don't feel like it at all. I'm kind of out on doom, so I don't know if these guys ripped any band off or anything, but I genuinely enjoy them, and I didn't think I could say that about any band that plays doom metal lately.

Also lets not go crazy here, I'm not saying this album moved me and everyone should own two copies, I'm not sure what really could in this genre at this point. But it definitely didn't eat farts.

Our Presence Here is Vain

If the band ever reads this feel free to quote me on any album sleeves and press releases "definitely didn't eat farts"

also does anyone think of the scene in Kiss of Death where Widmark pushes the old woman down the stairs and calls her "a lyin' ol' haaaaag"? "double crossin' squeelers all of ya"

no?

click play and die laughing.

best fucking laugh.

judd madden

ok fine heres something that isn't indy or rap.

judd madden is a solo act coming straight from the underground...down under...ground....Australia. doom stoner instrumental atmospheric psych whatever you're looking for this lad has in fucking droves. he's some graphic designer musician or whatever

from album to album the songs change but still somehow keep a general theme.

float drown and waterfall are strong, and really have a great dynamic as a whole. But if i had one complaint they're not albums i feel like i can enjoy an individual track from. its like if i want to listen to him i have to make a 45 minute commitment.

Hey. Yer cute. What's yer name?

Its like if Bongzilla chilled the fuck out, listened to a bit of Corrupted or something. The fuck do I care what it sounds like, theres a naked chick on the cover, of course I'm going to listen to it. And if it happens to possess the aural equivalent of the Spencer's Gifts-style hammer I imagine the giant from that story would use to crush that little kids bones to make his bread or whatever, so be it.

I thought they broke up, cause I was at what was billed as their last show like a year ago. Or maybe it was that their guitarist was leaving the band. She was real cute... I want to say Coffins was opening for them, strange as it sounds, and maybe… fuck it, I don't really remember. The bassists kid was running around near the stage, though, real little guy; I see a lot of kids at shows these days, toddlers really, running around near the speakers, getting their ears blasted off, all the while not being particularly metal or even really likable. At all. Like there was this one kid at… GTK and Rei-no-K (fyiaka Chuugakusei Kanoke) last weekend over at Chop… what the fuck? Get your kid out of my face.

I see that, and I say to myself, "Would I let my kids do that?" to which I respond, "who the fuck cares, dude, yr not old yet. Go drink more beer, and pretend that girl over there is eyeballing you" and I go drink more beer and am at ease but only so much because that girl really does look like she's eyeballing me and I'm stuck guessing whether or not I should go talk to her, and if I did what I would say so as not to look like such a fucking idiot. Beerbeerbeer, and the night inevitably ends with an explosion of loneliness precisely when I open the door to my apartment, all alone and hours later but ears still buzzing, and my only solace in the sweet waves of bass crashing over my already irreparably damaged eardrums emanating from my pizza-sauce caked laptop speakers. Maybe next time, Champ, maybe next time.

Anyway, I guess they're still around cause I'm seeing shows with them on the bill at Earthdom, among other places, starting next month. Killer.

Standards

Not long ago on the Swamp I had posted stuff by a cool US band, Negative Standards: four guys proudly coming from Oakland, California, a sickly fertile area for some amongst the coolest underground heavy tunes.
They had sent in their debut EP/ tape, called I-V (2010), which partly contains tracks from their early demo submitted to the Swamp in 2009. The result of the work done on the old stuff plus the charge by the new stuff is outstanding. And the band has been rewarded by a great success during the intensive touring activity of these two years.

As I had written on the Swamp, these guys, play some furious and fast d-beat crust hardcore which shares similarities with many great bands of the genre such as D.R.I., the Swedish kanga punk scene etc. However the crusty hardcore fury is vigorously blended with sludge and doom. The resulting sounds possess a great variety in rhythms and a further increase in the heaviness and “density” of the sound through distortion and fuzz of both guitar and plodding bass.
The drumming is another strong point of the band, as the drummer can easily fit any change in rhythm. And there are many of them and quite extreme …

Today Will, of Negative Standards, contacted me with some dates of the new tour.
So for those who are at the right latitudes, i.e. Northwest USA/Canada, here are dates and places where you can get your neck duly massaged:

June 29 - Arcata, CA @ The Big Tree, 1830 Stromberg Ave w/ Macula. 4pm
matinee show, $3.

June 30 - Portland @ Red and Black Cafe w/ Adelitas. 7pm.

July 1 - Seattle @ Fusion Cafe, 4th and Marion w/ Ordstro, Stares,
Mercy Ties, Numb. 7:30pm, $5.

July 2 - Squamish, BC @ Fastcore Fest w/ Ordstro, Stares, Rape
Revenge, Napalm Raid, Osk, Skuff, Obacha, Shooting Spree, Bracky Gen.
6pm, $10.

July 3 - Vancouver, BC @ Chateau Noir (Victoria and Lakewood) w/
Ordstro, Stares, Unlearn, AHNA, Rape Revenge, Napalm Raid. 3pm early
show, $5.

July 4 - Tacoma, WA @ The 5th Dimension, 3805 East B Street w/ Marrow.

July 5 - Olympia, WA @ Crossroads, 1504 Levonworth Ave. NE w/ Negative
Press, Negative Approach.

July 6 - Redding, CA @ Sue's Java w/ Ordstro, Stares, StressXRelief.

In case you missed the EP on the defunct Swamp, you can get it below, by using the old Swamp link, authorized by the band.
The EP, which includes five tracks and is simply and smartly named I-V, is out as tape-only and as a split release between two underground labels and Gay Scientist Recordings and Five-Ten Tapes (related to label Act of Sedition).
For those who like tapes, the EP tape is sold in a cool package, as “kvltgasm-inducing hand-numbered cassettes”.

Here is also a juicy video of a very recent performance (last saturday) when Negative Standards were making a lot of noise together with Martyrdod and No Statik.

Amarok - st

Amarok - S/T

Funeral doom feat members of the makai. I don't know what the makai is but I'm sure someone reading this will know and will give a shit for me because holy shit do I not.

Now this is a funny story(no it fucking isn't)
so this chap emails me and I agree his band is not as embarrassing as the bands they compare themselves to so I ask him for a link to post here and I literally deleted the fucking email 3 times accidentally and boy was I redfaced.

Besides being patient this band is actually good and I cite the fact that Northern California is gorgeous and full of good looking women who probably fuck because they are terrified of gangs and need someone to protect them as a reason. They have toured with other bands I have never heard of/hate as well in floor, weedeater and cough.

13 minute songs which is nice just in case you've surrendered 1/96th of your day to really really upset lads who have decided to either really upset me or really make me happy by roman numeralling their songs. "this song is called eye vee" live probably would make me giggle, but they seem upset enough where I won't hold this against them.

They also have the best label name in OrcaWolf.

http://orcawolf.com/

The download is there on the bottom as is the ordering option for a LP I'm going to order as soon as the summer is over and I trust the fucking animals who handle parcels in America to handle it with out getting melted or fucking broken by a sweaty mustachioed fucklush.

I would compare them to either grief or a less scary version of Khanate and isn't nearly the challenge to get through listening to as them. Anyways I hope The Brown Book, Black Sleep of Khali, Amarok and Toad all tour together so I actually can have a show played somewhere where all the bands don't completely hate my fucking guts.

like them on facebook!!! ps that was a good movie about a dreadfully boring website full of not nearly as much girl i went to high school with side titty as I wanted.

do you think if jkbroadrick could possibly make another dime out of jesu he'd put off a reunion for godflesh?

Black “freakazoid” experiments

I posted this on Sludgeswamp, so this is a double post, but I guess there may be interest here as well for what Crucial Blast is offering ...

Thanks to Adam Wright from US Crucial Blast Records for the heads-up about the newest releases of his super-cool and super-underground label.

During these days (since the first of February) the label has released two slabs of punishing noise-drone-dark ambient “demented” black metal to make your winter days even more gloomy or, for those living in the southern hemisphere, to make an implacable sun dry out your veins and blind your eyes and … uh, nasty!
You know that at Crucial Blast Records people have no pity. And they are faithful to this line …

The bands involved in the newest releases are Korperschwache and Demonologists. here I'm dealing with Korperschwache.

If you don’t know US band/project Korperschwache (from Austin, Texas), you may appreciate the telegraphic description given from RKF on Myspace: “Korperschwache is psychedelic black metal drone noise or something like that. Nine of ten mothers agree that it's real evil-like and stuff, plus probably harmful if swallowed.” And here I stop as RKF gets a bit naughty …
RKF is the “jackass” in charge of the band together with his long-standing partner-in-crime, Doktor Omega, who is “is still around to swing her golden hammer at those glacial tempos”. So RKF is in charge of “guitars, vox and ugliness”, whereas Doktor Omega is in charge of “beats, time and emptiness”.
Korperschwache began as a solo noise side-project in 1995 beside Unholydeathmachine and Autodidact, that RKF left in 2003. The meaning of the band’s name is rather creepy: “organic decay” …
Korperschwache has a long history and a wide musical production, as you can see while browsing in the band’s website.
Korperschwache shares a fat website with the UK noise band Skullflower. Beside the web-managing aspects of the relationship between RKF and Skullflower, there is an actual or at least inspirational link between the two bands.
RKF said in an interview: “Skullflower is definitely one of the influences on Korperschwache, although the earlier, noisier albums were influenced considerably more by the likes of Whitehouse, Merzbow, and Hijokaidan. At this point the band's biggest influences are probably Skullflower, Hijokaidan, Abruptum, Burzum, and Khanate.”

The brand new Crucial Blast release is Evil Walks, available both as a way smart digipack CD and digital download. As it is usual for this label, you can get a taste of the punishment by getting hold of the mp3 samples of all the tracks of the album. And you can also read a rich description of the release by Adam.
As pointed out by Adam, Evil Walks is actually the first widely available cd release for Crucial Blast from Korperschwache after almost a decade of smaller, limited-run discs released through the label's Crucial Bliss sub-imprint. It's also the most focused work yet according to the style, the “weird, lumbering black-dirge” into which the band gradually evolved from its noisy start.

“ … the music forms into this stoned blackened hypno-rock thing, the buzzing guitars and acid-scorched melodies looping over the skittery industrial beats and weird dubbed-out snares and concussive Godflesh-esque rhythms, turning into something that sounds remarkably like a mutant cross between late-80s British psych/drone rockers Loop and those notorious improv-black metal freakazoids Abruptum.”

“It's not black metal, but Korperschwache's Evil Walks is definitely recommended to fans of the demented fringes of underground blackness inhabited by like-minded bands like Utarm, Wrnlrd, Charnel House, Diapsiquir, Brobdingnagian, Mamaleek, Wormsblood and Lonesummer.
”
Take note …

A companion release to the Crucial Blast release is called Evil Crawls and features original mixes, remixes, and outtakes recorded by the duo during late 2009 - early 2010. The release can be found on Bandcamp and is shared as free download by the band.
And here you can find more of Korperschwache’s Bandcamp releases.
More free tracks from this productive weird duo can be found on Korperschwache’s webpage.

News about the band: here and here

For the latest digital and über-cool physical output by this gloomy duo you can’t go wrong by visiting Crucial Blast and the dedicated page: Korperschwache – Evil Walks (2011)
