It’s a bit of time that I’m missing from this place, so it’s time to come back with some stuff.
In the last weekend I’ve been at the Maryland Death Fest in Baltimore and I had a true overdose of great great great nasty metal and grindcore done almost in every shade.
But now I’m not posting anything of the bands at the festival. I just let the festival inspire me.
I’m posting an album I’ve been actually listening to for a while and that I like a lot. This album is the 2009 debut full-length release by the death metallers Affliction Gate from the sunny, southern lands of France (Provence, Côte d'Azur, etc.).
Three guys: Herastratos for the mighty vocals, Grief for the riffs and JP for the drums.
Nothing experimental, nothing revolutionary.
Just the so-called "old school death metal", oh yes, but done as if these guys were playing glacial black metal as well. Some great riffs, some nice changes in rhythm, fierce vocal parts reminding me of Entombed and all rendered with a great production.
In general I “automatically” and "blindly" love the French black metal production but I’m pleasantly surprised to discover some other metal stuff by my continental neighbours across the Alps!
(Actually in Baltimore there were Gorod from France as well ...).

You travelled all the way there? or you live nearby?
Admiration.
i wish i knew how to say 'damn, girl' in italian, because...damn, girl! i didn't go to MDF and i live only four hours away. that's dedication.
i hope you enjoyed it though.
thanks for the old school.
i would've gone if i didn't see ehg a couple months ago
awesome thanks!
I travelled there from Italy, so ... yes, let's call it "dedication"!
Or else the classical feeling "if I don't do it now I don't do it anymore ...". After the 40th birthday that feeling comes more often!!!
But you people in the East coast can choose to go easily next year.
I sometimes feel equally "lazy" with the many festivals/concerts held in Milano. I'm spoiled!
This year has been a "crazy" but great year for festivals for me: in april I went to a 2-day festival in London and the weekend after that I went to Roadburn. Then MDF ...
I've never done anything like that before but I'm glad I've done it. (You'll probably laugh at me at these words ...)
Well, so if I die tomorrow, I will die not completely, of course, but reasonably satisfied.
About Eyehategod, what's the problem? In April I've seen them twice (Roadburn and in Milano a week later) and at MDF I saw them again. I'm now in saturation but it's ok.
But in MDF there was so much else apart from ehg ...
well to be honest mari i'm a little disheartened with metal lately and i'd really only go to see them and obituary. everything else would just be "a nice plus"
Ah, well, that's another story then. I agree that spending 140+ US$ for the "nice plus" is sort of wasted money ...
how much did it cost you to get over here? i work for an italian immigrant and his 2 guinea brat 1st gen. son's 1 who married an italian girl
they constantly have family coming and going and it isn't cheap
I was at MDF too! So many good bands!! Who were some of the bands you enjoyed most? Thats pretty insane you traveled from Italy. The trip from Brooklyn isn't that bad.
Obituary was great, but their set seemed short, and was a missing a lot of stuff I was hoping they'd play. I like their recent albums just fine, but I'd still rather see them play stuff off their first 4 albums.
Piotr: Any chance you saw EHG on the rock cruise in NYC? That show was insane.

kind of over travelling to see bands. i've see ehg 4 times in ma
