think jazzy-postrock with speed riffs.
don't get the name of this album, a city of ghost stars and hours? seems like a mario level. sounds pretty fifi to me.
but for a post rock band this band completely shreds
if you liked "and so i watch you from afar" than you'd love this band
this dude double handed van halen shreds at parts, he probably makes the same stupid face while he does it.
as for an actual review?
i'll pass
but instead let me mock their first track.
its like 3 songs in one track, makes me wonder if they couldn't figure out how to segue between different parts of songs and rather than have a transition they just put in samples of people talking and then start playing again. it would be like a tv show having a commercial break and during it after the commercial you're in a different setting and time(which happens but i'm using it in the context of a song here so lets make it seem like it never happens). except instead of a commercial they use stupid samples that no one could possibly care about. mogwai was the best at using samples, i don't care what gy!be fans say mogwai torched you fifis. fifi by the way always made me laugh, my grandfather said it a lot. it always made me laugh and i think about patton saying it. anyways later in the album theres a good will hunting sample, and that always is a win in my book, i fell for that movie like a stripper would fall for a guy with a pocket full of oc's.
anyways, the downfall to this album like many an album is the fact they insist on having an intro track that does nothing for the album, like everyone needs a 2 minute wind down before their first song begins. why do bands do this? has anyone EVER enjoyed an intro track to an album? do people have favorite intro tracks? who does the best atmospheric din of nothing the best?
they play fucking celine dion talking about katrina samples over their first song, and i've never been so fucking disgusted with speech than listening to her justify the looting that went on. if they put her on this album for any other reason other than to mock her this band is fifi.
good record, great musicianship (no just kiddding i'd never say that word), and overall its something new to listen to if you're into post-rock. 2 listens through i really like it. but to some of you it could just sound like uninspired post-rock with cece deville guest shredding.
